With this OPEN CALL we invite professional artists, activists, and academics–i.e., practitioners of the Arts–to apply to participate at one of the three residencies organised in relation to LACE #2: Mediating Touch symposium:
- You Will Move Into My Depths hosted by Áron Birtalan;
- Three of Cups hosted by Stéphanie Janaina; and
- ONISM (online residency) hosted by Nea Landin.

Breaking with tradition, this year’s residencies are going to take place the week after the symposium. Those interested can now choose to spend more time exploring the practices and themes introduced at the symposium.
Mission Statement
Each residency is organised around a specific theme and/or area of interest with the intention to expand on the themes and areas of interest explored at the symposium. The host of the residency, its moderator, is the one who defines the themes to be explored at the residency and suggests a way to coordinate collective efforts for the week. They do this relative to the values and sensibilities developed within the context of their practice and in collaboration with residency participants.
Residencies are meant to encourage peer-to-peer and practice-based exchange between residency participants.
This means that as a residency participant you approach a residency because you have reason to explore your own practice in relation to (1) a given theme or area of interest, and (2) other people’s practices. Alternatively, you could be approaching a residency to explore your practice in a moderated environment, one that relieves you of some responsibilities [e.g., administrative responsibilities] whilst facing you with others [e.g., ethical or artistic responsibilities].
Whose residency is this anyway?
This, in other words, is your residency. It is an opportunity for you to spend time exploring your interests and your practice in-relation.
LACE residencies are committed to exploring relationality, interstitiality, collaboration, and sensitivity to the world through the prism of personal and collective artistic, academic, or activist practice.
