Alexa Wilson (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist working with dance and performance art, video and text from New Zealand recently based in NYC. Her works range from solo performance art projects, which are radical body based aesthetics political, somatic and often relational to commissioned group choreographies and complex video projects either directed or collaborative. Alexa was based in Berlin 10 years pre-Covid and has presented within Europe, UK, NZ, NY, Canada, Australia, India and China in theatre, film, music, gallery and public spaces. Berlin at 100 Grad/Sophiensaele, Ada Studio, Uferstudios, Ackerstadtpalast, Acud, Month of Performance Art Berlin, Kule, Meinblau, Tanzfabrik, Gr_nd Gallery, Plateau Gallery, Agora Collective, Brussels Volksroom, Vienna’s Improper Walls Gallery, London’s Ugly Duck Gallery, Glasgow’s Buzzcut Festival, NYC’s Grace Exhibition Space, Center for Performance Research, Dixon Place, Mothership residency, Last Frontier, Beijing’s Red Gate residency, Melbourne’s Dancehouse and India’s Morni Hill’s performance Biennale. She has won awards in NZ and created work on dance companies Touch Compass and Footnote NZ Dance Company. She has presented across NZ in performance, screened film at Academy Cinemas NZ and film festivals worldwide She curated Morni Hills Performance Residency India (2017) and founded Experimental Dance Week Aotearoa/NZ (2019/20). She has danced for top NZ Choreographers Douglas Wright, Malia Johnston, Lisa Densem and others. She has taught at Unitec, Auckland University, NZSD, MIT NZ and been a body therapist in Berlin. She has a BA, BPSA, MA and MPhil (First Class) from New Zealand (Auckland University, Unitec, AUT) in sociology/philosophy - gender, film and media studies, dance and performance, film and visual arts. She published a novel, Theatre of Ocean in 2022.
