Ilana Reynolds (she/her) is an American/French artist living and working in Germany since 2012. She works in the fields of dance/performance, choreography, artistic research and pedagogy. Thriving within strong artistic collaborations, Ilana has a long lasting co-choreographic/artistic research project called imagined choreographies with artist Sabrina Huth. They were awarded #TakeAction production funding (2021) for their piece A meeting that never took place and NPN Stepping Out funding (2022) for their durational piece The practice of never meeting. They were invited to present their work during the Juxtapose Independent Art Fair (2023) in Aarhus, Denmark alongside visual artist Kelly Jang. Ilana has also been developing work with Laura Hicks, exploring idiosyncratic movement qualities, humor, and failure as ways of challenging gender stereotypes, performativity and the theatrical space. Their first duet Making Impressions and Other Failures(2018) has been presented in dance/theater festivals in Germany and abroad. As a solo work, Ilana has an on going performative and dance archival research project called Re-performing the Solo which has been presented in the frame of the DISTANZ SOLO festival in Berlin (2022), lecture presentation series at the Dance Archive Köln (2022) and Tanzhaus Temporär ̊7 Tanzwerk Kassel (2023). Since 2017, she works as a dramaturg for the dance company Hennermann’s Horde in Frankfurt am Main. Ilana holds a BA in dance from the University of Massachusetts (USA) and an MA in contemporary dance education from the Frankfurt University of Arts.
